With their walls legal books, and their mounds of legal pads, files, and papers, are attorneys scared of the new paperless world being created?
Right Lawyers, divorce lawyers located in Las Vegas Nevada, are embracing the disturbance that technology is bringing to the legal field.
At a recent attorney round table the firm was asked to discuss their strategy to embrace technology, and how their quest to become virtual, and paperless has changed their business.
At the round table, office manager Rock Rocheleau, explained the advantages, and challenges, of going virtual. “We knew virtual would provide more flexibility to our divorce attorneys to work from anywhere. We also thought there might be some cost savings by going into the cloud and becoming paperless.”
Rock went on to further discuss the challenges of going virtual. “The idea was foreign. Lawyers love paper, and we are not the first group to embrace new technology. We had to rethink everything. What would we do for software. What would we do when a piece of paper comes into the office. And there are lots of pieces of paper.”
In 2015 Right Lawyers started on the path of cutting the cord. This literally meant they would be removing the server from the office by 2017. No more using a server to control the office computers, no more server to control the firm’s client management system, and no more saving paper when you store it in the cloud.
Three years later (yes they missed the goal by a year) the firm couldn’t imagine doing business the old fashion way. “Our attorneys can work from anywhere, from any devise. All of our software is in the cloud. Including our phone system. And, we reduced our paper file storage by 90%” We don’t miss the old days at all. , Rocheleau says.
