New Board Member Appointed to Second Start Executive Board
Board also elects new vice president and treasurer
SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Second Start Learning Disabilities Programs, Inc. announces the appointment of retired educator Dan Fowler of San Jose, Calif., to its executive board. The board has also elected sitting board members Bob Cole and David Millar, MBA, to the positions of vice president and treasurer respectively.
Fowler joins Second Start after a career in the California education system spanning nearly 30 years. He plans to use his experience as a teacher and school administrator to aid in the further development of academic achievement of the students enrolled in Second Start programs.
“I’m here to ensure that our students receive the full benefit of Second Start programs,” Fowler said. “When I first became a teacher, my principal always said that you have to ask yourself one question: ‘is it good for kids?’. If the answer is no, then you have to rethink it.”
Bob Cole of San Jose, California, vice president, and David Millar, Reno, Nevada, treasurer, are also bringing their individual expertise to their new positions. Cole, a retired special education principal, has been on the board since 2011. Millar, a financial analyst, has served on the board since November 2016.
“Second Start is so grateful to have the expertise of these volunteer executive board members,” said Board President Ira M. Gostin. “We have a diverse and experienced team to help guide our mission of helping students in California and Nevada.”
The executive board will continue its effort to innovate and improve its programs in order to keep raising the bar of special needs education programs in Northern California and Nevada.
