Agency Recognized for Richards Crossing Development Project
Carson City, Nev. – Nevada Rural Housing Authority (NRHA) was awarded a 2017 NMA Development Award presented by Nan McKay & Associates (NMA) at its 10th Annual Housing Awards in Boston, August 21 and 22. NRHA was recognized for its role in the development of the supportive housing project, Richards Crossing in Carson City. The first of its kind in rural Nevada, Richards Crossing incorporates housing units with an on-the-job training facility and community support services that provide a hand up to veterans, homeless and extremely low-income individuals.
Richards Crossing opened in April this year with the support of several partners. It includes 38 affordable housing units developed specifically for the homeless and extremely low-income individuals. Eight units are reserved for chronically homeless veterans who receive rental
assistance from the U.S. Veterans Administration (VA), while the other 30 units receive Section 8 project-based rental assistance.
“This award is an honor and a true testament to incredible people who came together to make Richards Crossing a reality,” said Gary Longaker, NRHA executive director. “Carson City homelessness has been on the rise, and this project not only helps put roofs over heads but connects people with the services they need to become self-sufficient.”
NRHA’s role and the mission go well beyond a simple housing authority. With a focus on community development and economic vitality, NRHA has the people and resources to bring diversified projects, such as Richards Crossing, to life.
Founded in 1980, Nan McKay & Associates (NMA) is widely known as the gold standard for performance excellence in the public housing and affordable housing industry and the industry leader in providing professional services to housing agencies across the nation.
