Volunteer Registration Now Open for United Way of Southern Nevada’s Day of Caring on September 29

Volunteers can now register at uwsn.org/caring for United Way of Southern Nevada’s Day of Caring on Friday, September 29, 2017Volunteers can now register at uwsn.org/caring for United Way of Southern Nevada’s Day of Caring on Friday, September 29, 2017, Southern Nevada’s largest one-day community-wide volunteer event dedicated to improving people’s lives.

The second annual Day of Caring will bring together 1,700 volunteers to complete more than 170 projects at more than 60 local nonprofit agencies and schools.

Projects include a variety of activities including painting school playgrounds and classrooms, graffiti removal, landscaping, building benches, reading to students, assembling food backpacks and park clean up. Volunteers can work either a half day (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) or a full day (10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – includes lunch).

This year, to celebrate United Way of Southern Nevada’s 60th Anniversary serving Southern Nevada, $60,000 will be split among participating nonprofits and schools to boost the volunteer efforts.

“By joining together, united, for one day we can make a tremendous impact on the place where we all live and work,” said Chris Cappas, United Way of Southern Nevada Vice President of Volunteer Engagement and Human Resources. “Day of Caring is an easy, fulfilling and fun way to help these schools and nonprofits complete projects that might not otherwise get done.”

Participating nonprofits include: Spread the Word Nevada, Volunteers in Medicine, Candlelighters, Immunize Nevada, Leaders in Training, Nathan Adelson Hospice, Opportunity Village, Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, Project 150, Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada, YMCA, Clean the World, Future Smiles, Green Our Planet, Habitat for Humanity, Down Syndrome Organization of Southern Nevada, The Center, The Salvation Army of Southern Nevada, The Shade Tree, Outside Las Vegas Foundation, Hearts Alive Village, Helping Hands of Vegas Valley, Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada, Three Square, Goodwill of Southern Nevada, Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada, The Tortoise Group, Vegas PBS, and US Vets.

Participating schools include: Basic HS, Vassiliadis ES, Chaparral HS, Cheyenne HS, Wengert ES, Dean Petersen ES, Robison MS, Desert Rose HS, Lunt ES, Stuckey ES, Futuro Academy, Hewetson ES, Hollingsworth ES, Hummel ES, Ullom ES, Scott ES, Bridger MS, Thorpe ES, Dooley ES, Josh Stevens ES, Dearing ES, Lowman ES, Manch ES, Rundle ES, Robert Taylor ES, Gibson MS, Rowe ES, The Marzano Academy at Heard ES, Newton ES, Bracken STEAM Academy, Long STEAM Academy, Ferron ES, and Woodbury MS.

All volunteers will be invited to the kick off at “The Green” at Town Square Las Vegas from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 29 before day of volunteering begins. Volunteers can enjoy breakfast, a free t-shirt, sponsorship recognition, networking opportunities, and the ability to collectively celebrate volunteerism.
