Workforce Connections is taking its successful career fairs on the road with the first ever Pop-Up Career Fair: 89101 to be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Clark County JJS Gymnasium, at 651 N. Pecos, Building F, Las Vegas, NV 89101, starting at 11 a.m.
“We are committed to taking resources to the neighborhoods that need us most,” said Kenadie Cobbin Richardson, Workforce Connections director of business engagement and communications.
According to the 2016 Distressed Communities Index (DCI) by the Economic Innovation Group, 39% of those who live in the 89101 zip code have no high school degree (25 years old and older); 36% are at or below the poverty line; and 58% of adults 16 years and older are not working. The DCI assesses the economic well-being of communities by using data from more than 25,000 zip codes across the United States. (www.eig.org/dci)
Employers such as Diamond Resorts, Four Queens and Binion’s Gambling Hall will be at the career fair on May 4, 2017. Every employer has open job positions. In addition to employers, training providers, community resources and education opportunities will also be available to job seekers.
Employers and job seekers can register for the event at www.nvworkforceconnections.org/register or visit www.nvcareercenter.org for more information.
Job seekers are encouraged to dress to impress as they may have the opportunity to interview with multiple companies onsite. Job seekers should also update their resume and bring at least thirty copies. Children will not be allowed into the event, so please arrange for child care.
About Workforce Connections: Workforce Connections’ mission is to connect employers to a ready workforce. The passing of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) provides opportunity for reforms to ensure the One-Stop Delivery System (also known as the American Job Center System) is job-driven, responding to the needs of employers and preparing workers for jobs that are available now and in the future. For more information, visit: www.nvworkforceconnections.org.
About the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA): On July 22, 2014 President Barak Obama signed into law the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). The new law is designed to improve and streamline access to federally funded employment, education, training and support services. Congress passed the law by a wide bipartisan majority. It is the first legislative reform in 15 years of the public workforce system. https://www.doleta.gov/wioa/.
