Bob Ryan, a partner in the Reno office of Holland & Hart, has been named to the IAM Strategy 300, which recognizes the leading intellectual-property strategists in the world.
The recognition, developed by the Intellectual Asset Management publishing group, is based on the nomination of Ryan by intellectual property professionals outside of Holland & Hart. Nomination criteria are based on nominees’ track record in the development and implementation of strategies that enable IP owners to maximize the value of their rights portfolios.
Ryan, a registered patent attorney and a member of Holland & Hart’s IP team comprising more than 80 attorneys across the Rocky Mountain West, handles intellectual-property procurement, transactional, and enforcement matters for clients.
He was formerly a partner with one of the largest IP boutiques in the country before co-founding what became one of the largest IP firms in Chicago.
Ryan left that firm in 1996 to come to Reno as general counsel and patent attorney for StarGuide Digital Networks, a technology startup that developed satellite and Internet telecommunications systems for the radio industry. Ryan oversaw the procurement of 32 patents for StarGuide’s technology, and engineered the use of the portfolio to drive StarGuide’s 2002 acquisition of StarGuide’s substantial publicly held competitor, Digital Generation Systems.
His successful track record in business management began when he managed his father’s auto parts and machine shop business after his father was forced by illness to step aside. Ryan and his wife provided hands-on management of the business even while he oversaw a busy IP practice and his wife worked as a partner in Anderson Consulting.
Ryan earned bachelor’s degrees in industrial engineering and economics from the University of Illinois (U-C) and earned his law degree from Northwestern University School of Law.
