Tech Leaders Elected to NCET Board

January 7, 2016 By Abbi Whitaker Leave a Comment

Dave Archer has been re-elected as president and CEO of NCET, a member-supported nonprofit in Reno that produces networking events to help individuals and businesses explore and use technology. Susan Moreno has been elected to the board of NCET and will serve a one-year term as co-vice president of membership. Mikalee Byerman, Nicole Rose Dion, Van Fortier, Andy Jorgensen, Matt Lush and Jackie Phillips have been re-elected to one-year terms on the board of NCET.

Archer held executive positions in international product and market development at Viacom, Home Box Office, AOL Netscape and Headlight before joining NCET. He earned a master’s degree in business and bachelor’s degree in management from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif., and earned associate’s degrees in electronics engineering and broadcast engineering from the College of San Mateo. Archer also is co-founder of the Reno Angels, chair of Entrepreneurship Nevada, and a member of the Nevada System of Higher Education’s EPSCoR Advisory Committee.

Moreno is the chief executive officer of CVirtual, Inc., a Reno-based executive and technical recruiting firm. After 25 years in the hospitality industry, Moreno co-founded the company in 2013 with her husband, David. CVIrtual relies on video interviewing and other technologies to improve and streamline the hiring process. She earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and French, and was named the 2015 Technology Entrepreneur of the Year by NCET in 2015.

Byerman, who serves as NCET’s co-vice president for communications, is director of audience engagement for Estipona Group. She has worked as a writer, marketing and public relations director and communications consultant in northern Nevada for almost two decades. She has held positions with the Reno Gazette-Journal, the University of Nevada, Reno, and the Washoe County School District during her career. Byerman earned a bachelor’s degree in speech communication and a master’s degree in journalism from UNR.

Dion, who serves as NCET’s co-vice president of social media, is client services manager for Estipona Group in Reno. She has managed social media programs, acted as graphic designer, programmed websites, managed client relationships and served as a production manager. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a bachelor’s degree in journalism with an emphasis in advertising and public relations.
Fortier, who serves as NCET’s co-vice president of event services, is director of business development in Northern Nevada for Dale Carnegie Training of Nevada. After retiring from the U.S. Army, where he served in numerous leadership positions, Fortier worked two years for a Fortune 500 software company before joining the staff of Dale Carnegie Training of Nevada. A former Eagle Scout, he is active volunteer with the Boy Scouts and the American Red Cross.

Jorgensen, who was re-elected as co-vice president of creative services for NCET, is program director of Nevada Ready 21, a new K-12 digital learning initiative at the Nevada Department of Education created by the 2015 Nevada Legislature and Governor Sandoval. A leader in educational technology in Northern Nevada for 10 years, he also has worked as a computer science teacher, graphic designer, and musician. Jorgensen earned a degree in information systems from the College of Business at UNR.

Lush, who serves as vice president of public relations for NCET, works as an account executive at The Abbi Agency. He also is the owner of Matt Lush Photography. He also has held positions as a public relations coordinator with The University of Nevada School of Medicine and as digital media coordinator with a statewide political campaign. He earned a degree in economics from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Phillips, re-elected as a co-vice president of creative services, is a freelance graphic designer and marketing professional in Incline Village. She has three decades of professional experience in the higher education, non-profit, software and boutique retail sectors. Phillips also writes marriage ceremonies for couples nationwide and celebrates marriages as a wedding officiant in the Lake Tahoe, Reno and Carson areas. She earned a degree in English and an Extension certificate in marketing from the University of California, Berkeley.

“NCET is extremely fortunate to draw on the expertise of these board members who provide meaningful professional experience, a wide variety of skills and a commitment to their community,” said Archer.
