The Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation invites the community to join in support of critically ill children and adults touched by cancer in Southern Nevada

LAS VEGAS – The Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation (NCCF) presents its 22nd Annual Profiles of Courage Dinner Gala and auction proudly honoring the children they serve and supporters of the foundation. The gala will be held at Bellagio Las Vegas on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 6p.m. All proceeds benefit NCCF’s Project ARK (Aids & Resources for Kids), the psychological, emotional, educational and financial support services for families of children suffering from cancer and life threatening illnesses, as well as NCCF’s adult services program, The Caring Place, providing healing arts and wellness programs for adults touched by cancer.

“We look forward to this event which highlights the people and companies who support our efforts in this community year after year,” said Jeff Gordon, NCCF president and CEO.  “We are fortunate to provide more than 22 years of service in our community to critically ill children and adults touched by cancer who embody courage and hope as they fight a daily battle against disease. We are proud to honor and serve them.”

NCCF will honor several “heroes,” children who are in the NCCF programs, for their strength and courage. Awards include:

  • “The Special Angel:” Given to the family of Luis Margarito whose spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of all those that he touched before losing his battle against cancer.
  • “Children of Courage:” Dace Davis, age five, and Victoria Godkin, age 15, will both receive this award for demonstrating bravery and courage through the challenges of battling critical illnesses and providing strength to those around them.
  • “Student of the Year:” Demetrio DiSalvo, age seven, will receive this honor for his commitment, perseverance and dedication to his education during his fight against acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
  • “Sibling of the Year:” Douglas Compson, age 16, is brother to Steven who was diagnosed as a child with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Since then, Douglas has become Steven’s partner in dealing with the challenges he has faced with his diagnosis. Douglas is active in NCCF events, workshops and volunteering.
  • “Family of Courage:” Paul Moran Family – Paul Moran and his family will receive this award together for their strength, resilience and courage in their fight against the cancer with which Paul was diagnosed.

Other awards for the evening include:

  • “Community Angels:” Chart-topping pop artist Britney Spears in partnership with Zappos.com and Tony Hsieh will be honored for their continued support and donations to fund a future building site in the Southern Nevada community to encompass both the pediatric and adult services provided by Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation.
  • “Volunteers of the Year:” Justin Cook will be honored for his service to NCCF and Camp Cartwheel. Meagan Henderson will also be honored for her service to developing and participating in NCCF teen programs and activities.  Also, Lucinda Hoye will be honored for her support of adults touched by cancer and her volunteer efforts at The Caring Place.
  • “Healthcare Professional of Year:” Toni Mullan, RN, will be honored for her service, care and time she shares as a member of the medical staff at NCCF’s Camp Cartwheel each year.

Major sponsors for the event include PENTA Building Group, Southwest Specialty Contractors, Component West, Bombard Electric, ValleyCrest Landscape Companies, Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada and Scientific Games.

Tickets for the 22nd Annual Profiles of Courage Gala are $250 per person.  For more information, please call the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation at 702-735-8434 or visit www.nvccf.org. You can also follow the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @NVCCF.
