With an accent on “fun,” rescued animals and pets will be honored at the annual Family, Fur & Fun Festival on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Exploration Park in the Mountain’s Edge Master Planned Community, 9600 S. Buffalo Dr., just south of Blue Diamond Rd. The event is free to attend.
Designed for all ages and well-behaved, leashed four-legged friends, attendees will learn about caring for furry and non-furry pets in a fun way. Equally as important is the festival’s message of helping, fostering and adopting abandoned and neglected animals.
The festival features a variety of educational, interactive and service booths and demonstrations, including hands-on activities for children to experience pets, pet adoption, arts and crafts, raffle with great prizes, agility course for pets and their owners, and food and refreshments. There also will be agility and fly ball demonstrations, and the USA Sevens Rugby Club will conduct demonstrative matches with student athletes.
The popular Halloween Pet Costume Contest will return with prizes awarded for Best in Show, Best Family (can include humans and/or multiple pets), Funniest Costume, and Cutest Costume. It will begin at 1:30 p.m. with entry at $3 per category. Registration is at the event. There also will be information about keeping your pets safe during Halloween.
All event proceeds benefit animal shelters and rescues in Southern Nevada. The festival is sponsored by The Law Office of Donna Stidham LLC, Mountain’s Edge Master Planned Community, Amica, At Your Service Pet Supplies & Grooming, NutriSource, Pictographics, USA Sevens Rugby and West Charleston Animal Hospital.
