LAS VEGAS – When the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority earlier this year made the historic $191 million purchase of the Riviera hotel-casino to build the Las Vegas Global Business District, The International School of Hospitality (TISOH) kicked into high gear to help ensure a qualified workforce would be ready when the project is complete.
The Las Vegas Global Business District is expected to solidify Las Vegas as the national leader in the trade show industry and make room for greater numbers of trade shows and conventions, some of which have been turned down recently because of limited space.
“We know this project is going to generate a need for hundreds of qualified professionals to organize and host major trade shows and exhibitions,” said Timothy M. Lam, TISOH’s executive director. “Las Vegas is known globally for its conventions, exhibitions and trade shows. We want to make sure our workforce is polished and ready for when those new job opportunities open up.”
The school this fall is launching several courses to strengthen the labor force needed to fill those jobs and help people already in the industry take leadership roles.
Exhibition and Trade Show Management Certificate
This certificate program is designed to provide an intermediate level of knowledge in exhibition and trade show production and management, along with necessary organizational, marketing, site, design, and evaluation strategies. This course focuses on the details of exhibition production and management.
Hospitality Marketing and Sales Certificate
TISOH is expecting to see a greater demand for training in marketing and sales within the hospitality industry corresponding to greater visitor volume resulting from the new LVCVA development. This will include a new Hospitality Marketing and Sales Certificate, designed to provide beginner to intermediate knowledge in industry marketing and sales. Specifically, students will gain an understanding of price, product and promotion across various categories, including food and beverage and conferences. This course will emphasize essential knowledge on distribution, revenue management, customer relationship management, market segmentation and trends.
Certificate in Hospitality English
TISOH also is including a Certificate in Hospitality English in its new offerings to prepare international students and those who want to improve their language skills for communicating effectively in the hospitality industry. The certificate will provide a multi-level curriculum that includes intensive training in listening, speaking, writing and contextualizing information.
Tuition for the new courses starts at $1,650.
