PAHRUMP, Nev. – In an effort to recognize hard-working students across its service area, Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA), a member-owned electric cooperative based in Pahrump, recently announced the recipients of its 2015 annual scholarships. Following a comprehensive review of submitted applications, the cooperative awarded four post-secondary education scholarships to members during its Annual Meeting in April.
The four scholarships awarded this year include:
- Two full-time academic scholarships offering $1,000 per year for four consecutive year
- Two full-time vocational/technical scholarships offering $1,000 per year for two consecutive years
The academic scholarships were awarded to Andrea Melgar and Hanna Mason. Melgar plans to attend Pennsylvania State University to study marketing. Mason will attend the University of Nevada, Reno to study engineering physics.
Alisha Finn and Skylee Memmott each earned a vocational/technical scholarship. Finn is going to attend Le Cordon Bleu to study culinary arts. Memmott is still finalizing her academic plans.
VEA has distributed annual scholarships since 2008, with all members and individuals whose parents or legal guardians are VEA members eligible to apply. The cooperative has awarded $35,300 in scholarships during the past seven years.
“Throughout the year, VEA hosts a variety of community programs supporting education across its service territory,” said VEA Community Relations Representative Cassandra Selbach. “Our scholarship program remains a popular opportunity for VEA’s members and their children to pursue their education and career goals, and we received many impressive applications this year. We look forward to providing local students with valuable support for many years to come.”
