LAS VEGAS – As part of its Exceptional Safety campaign, The PENTA Building Group announced it will temporarily shut down work at all its job sites across Las Vegas and the country from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, June 1. At this time, PENTA will conduct its quarterly Safety Stand Down event, focusing on knowing how to avoid heat-related illness, and the safety hazards heat can bring.
PENTA’s Lucky Dragon Hotel & Casino job site is open to the media for this safety event on June 1. During the event, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue will provide training to the job site’s crews about avoiding and recognizing heat-related illnesses. PENTA’s leadership team will also review the company’s 2015 Safety Initiative of Exceptional Safety. In addition, the contractor will recognize the winners of its Exceptional Innovation Idea of the Quarter, Exceptional Leadership and Subcontractor of the Quarter awards.
The event will be located at the Lucky Dragon job site at 300 West Sahara Avenue. The press entrance to the site is on its north side via Cincinnati Avenue. The entire site’s workforce of more than 50 workers will be involved. The site at its peak will have approximately 250 workers.
“PENTA’s top priority is the safety of each and every worker, and we believe it is crucial to raise awareness of how the intense summer heat in Las Vegas can be potentially dangerous and even deadly for those working on job sites,” said Rodd Weber, PENTA’s corporate safety director. “PENTA truly cares for the well-being of everyone involved in each project, including employees, subcontractors, our clients and members of the public, and this information can be valuable for all of them. We have set a high standard for safety protocols on the job, and we believe this is reflected in PENTA’s outstanding safety record.”
PENTA maintains a 0.59 Experience Modification Rating (EMR), a safety rating used for determining worker’s compensation, significantly below the average of 1.0. PENTA has not experienced a lost-time incident, or an injury leading to loss of work time, in more than five years and more than 2 million man hours. The contractor has also won numerous safety awards, such as the Building a Safer Nevada Award from the Associated General Contractors’ Las Vegas Chapter.
The 370,000-square-foot Lucky Dragon project includes a nine-story hotel tower, a two-story casino and a six-story parking garage. It also includes a pool and three dining facilities.
