LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas steering committee of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, will celebrate its Tenth Annual Gala Dinner on May 9 at the Aria Resort and Casino, Las Vegas. The year’s theme will be “EVOLVE: Move Toward the Future” and will highlight the importance of equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) families. “‘Evolve’ marks the progress that has been made for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) citizens since last year’s gala,” said US Senator Harry Reid. “The Las Vegas Chapter of HRC has worked hard to ensure the advancement of LGBT rights, and I remain committed to working with HRC in its efforts to ensure dignity and equality for Nevadans and individuals across the United States.”
The celebrity-filled event is black tie optional and includes a red carpet at 4:30 p.m. Attendees can expect attendance from HRC President Chad Griffin and appearances from trailblazing philanthropist, Academy Award and Golden Globes-nominated director and leading supporters of marriage equality Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner. Following the red carpet will be a VIP cocktail reception at 5 p.m., with general reception and silent auction at 6 p.m. Dinner and the awards ceremony will run from 7 to 9:30 p.m. General dinner tickets start at $250 and are available at www.hrc.org/boxoffice or by phone at 800-494-8497.
Supporting this gala allows broad advocacy work on behalf of LGBT families in Nevada and beyond. “Most recently, HRC Las Vegas worked to defeat proposed legislation that would harm and stigmatize transgender youth in schools,” said Steve Amend, Gala Tri-Chair and former HRC National Board of Governors.
During the Tenth Annual Gala, HRC will honor individuals who are steadfast in their dedication to the LGBT community. These community leaders go above and beyond each day to end discrimination and bring new meaning to the concept of equality. They truly embody the power to “Move Toward the Future.”
- The “Equality Award” is a national honor that recognizes those who dedicate each and every day to making a significant impact on human rights and equality and works to educate people from coast-to-coast. The 2015 “Equality Award” will be presented to award-winning actor Rob Reiner and his wife and philanthropist Michele Reiner.
- The “Ally for Equality Award,” recognizes the outstanding efforts of those who dedicate time, energy, spirit, and whole-hearted commitment to better the lives of LGBT community members. The 2015 “Ally for Equality Award” will be presented to Mya Reyes, President Las Vegas Gay Visitors Bureau.
- The “Equality in the Community Award,” salutes local activists for advocating on behalf of LGBT issues. The 2015 “Equality in the Community Award” will be presented to Assemblyman James Healey, Director of Hotel Operations, New York New York Hotel & Casino.
“Our honorees and generous corporate and foundation sponsors have truly been our partners on this journey toward equal rights. It’s because of these relationships and their level of support that many Nevadans are able to live their lives authentically,“ said Latoya Holman, HRC’s National Board of Governors.
