WHAT:
Pets Best is scheduled to name the 2014 grand prize winner of its nationwide My Vet’s the Best contest during an announcement event at the 87th annual Western Veterinary Conference in Las Vegas.
In addition, Dr. Jack Stephens, the co-founder and director of Pets Best, is also scheduled to host two signing events for his book, “A Different Kind of Veterinarian,” during the conference. The book documents the challenges of starting the pet insurance industry, Dr. Stephens’ struggles to keep the industry alive and the fight for his own life when he was given six months to live following a cancer diagnosis.
WHY:
Following a year-long contest to determine the nation’s best veterinarian, Pets Best will announce its 2014 grand prize winner, who will be available for media interviews at the event. A total of 26 finalists were in the running for the top honors, which included a paid trip for the winner and one guest to the Western Veterinary Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada and $1,000 in prize money to help the winning veterinarian treat animals in need. Pets Best created the contest in an effort to recognize veterinarians who go above and beyond to promote pet health. Hundreds of veterinarians receive nominations from grateful pet owners each year.
Dr. Stephens, the founder of the nation’s pet insurance industry, will also be available for interviews at the announcement event. Stephens issued the first pet insurance policy to TV legend Lassie in the 1980s.
Dr. Stephens will host the book signing events in order to share his recently released book with additional members of the veterinary community.
