Organizations honor local women working in technology
LAS VEGAS – Girls in Tech, Las Vegas (GIT), HiTech Vegas LLC., and Women Advancing (formerly Women in Media Mentoring Initiative) present the second annual Las Vegas Women in Technology Awards to recognize the achievements of leading women in technology fields working in the greater Las Vegas metro area.
The Las Vegas Women in Technology Awards will be awarded to five women representing technology industries including: Robotics, Information Technology (IT), Computer Engineering, 3D Printing, new technology inventions, entrepreneurs and start-ups. Nominations are now open and being accepted online through April 15, 2015 at https://www.vegaswomentechawards.net/.
The Las Vegas Women in Technology Awards encompass the various sectors of technology as a whole to recognize and promote the advancement of women in technological careers. Five awards will be given: High Tech Woman of the Year, High Tech Rising Star, High Tech Community Service, High Tech Entrepreneur and High Tech Mentor. We invite the Las Vegas technology community to nominate local Las Vegas women for these awards.
“We are excited to recognize the amazing innovative advances that local women are making in technology in Las Vegas,” says Christina Aldan, co-managing director of Girls in Tech Las Vegas. In the past 10 years, growth in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) jobs has been three times greater than non-STEM jobs. While women comprise 48% of the US workforce, just 24% are in STEM fields, a statistic that has held constant for nearly the last decade according to Million Women Mentors.
“It’s time for our Las Vegas technology community to honor the women that are leading and changing the status quo in high-tech, and this award recognizes the great achievements of local women changing the face of technology today,” says Lori Nguyen, president of HiTech Vegas LLC and founder of the Las Vegas Woman in Technology awards.
