NBTI eyeing mid-2015 competition
RENO, Nev. – The Nevada Hospital Association (NHA) and Nevada Broadband Networks (NBN) jointly announced that construction of the new state-wide fiber network is over halfway completed. The new network will provide carrier-grade broadband services to area hospitals, healthcare facilities, non-profits, government agencies and private businesses.
NBN has completed much of the construction between Tonopah and Pahrump, approximately 260 miles of the 510 mile project, with the remaining construction scheduled for completion by June 2015. The project will provide the first fiber broadband connection between Reno and Las Vegas that allows for local access in communities along US 95.
The project, also known as the Nevada Broadband Telemedicine Initiative (NBTI), is the result of a federal Broadband Technology Opportunity Program Grant awarded to the NHA. The NHA selected NBN as their partner responsible for construction and operation of the all-fiber network that connects Reno and Las Vegas.
John Clayton, Senior Vice President of Nevada Broadband Networks is proud of the work his team has put in to reach this achievement. “It takes a special team to have the dedication and talent to overcome the unique challenges presented by a project of this magnitude,” stated Mr. Clayton. “The progress we have made in the last six months is impressive.”
In addition to the physical construction of the network, the project team has also managed a major sub project of securing more than 250 private parcel easements that began in June. These easements are required for Nevada Broadband Networks to complete the network construction.
“We are another step closer to reaching our goal of advanced broadband access to our member hospitals and improving access to other community institutions across the state,” stated Bill Welch, President and CEO of the NHA. “We are excited about the possibilities this network brings to healthcare in Nevada and eagerly await its completion.”
