On Saturday, Dec. 13, members of GLVAR’s Young Professionals Network donated nearly $10,000 to host a holiday party for St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. GLVAR’s YPN members provided food and refreshments, entertainment and a visit from Santa. Donations from GLVAR’s YPN members also fulfilled the holiday gift wishes of 41 local children served by St. Jude’s.
One day earlier, GLVAR President Heidi Kasama said GLVAR presented $20,000 worth of checks to 12 different local charities during a Dec. 12 breakfast at its headquarters at 1750 E. Sahara Ave. Charities were selected by a committee of GLVAR leaders based on need and the services they provide to Southern Nevadans in need. Charities receiving donations include:
- Big Brothers, Big Sisters – $1,500
- Catholic Charities – $1,500
- Family & Child Treatment – $1,000
- Foreclosed Upon Pets – $1,000
- Nevada Homeless Alliance – $3,000
- Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth – $3,000
- Pet Awareness & Welfare Services – $1,000
- Project 150 – $2,000
- The Shade Tree – $1,000
- Street Teens – $3,000
- Walter Hoving Home – $1,000
- Safe Nest – $1,000
