Las Vegas – A new campus is greeting families at Shenker Academy and Temple Sinai in Summerlin. After 11 months of construction and renovations, Shenker Academy and Temple Sinai are welcoming a new, grand front entrance, improved security system, an updated playground for the Shenker children, new executive offices, a remodeled event center, learning center, sanctuary and chapel.
The remodel took place throughout the 2013-2014 school year and provides 28,000 more square footage for a total of 38,000 square feet to accommodate the campus’s growing needs. A new security system and perimeter wall provides added protection for the preschool and kindergarten.
“Everyone at Temple Sinai is looking forward to the future and bringing the new building to life now that this major project has been completed,” said Temple Sinai President Julie Littmann.
Located on the Temple Sinai campus, The Shenker Academy, a premier early childhood learning academy, is in the midst of its 2014-2015 school year.
During the year, the 3- and 4-year-olds are studying through a new curriculum, “Our Environment and the World Around Us.” It is based on Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences and McTighe’s “Understanding by Design.” Students also are exposed to daily movement and music. Hebrew, Spanish and sign language are also taught to children 12 months and older.
“We’re very pleased with the remodel. Shenker parents can look forward to bringing their children to Shenker Academy knowing their little ones have the best amenities available to them,” said Shenker Academy Director Linda Specht. “We have a safe and secure campus and always keep our children in the best environment possible.”
The Shenker Academy’s early childhood program accommodates half-day and full-day pre-school and kindergarten programs for children between ages 1 and 5. The classroom ratio for 12- and 18-month-olds is one teacher per four students, with a maximum of eight children per classroom. The 2-year-old class has a ratio of one to six, with a maximum of 12 children per classroom; the 3-year-old class has a ratio of one to eight, with a maximum class size of 16; and the 4-year-old class has a ratio of one to 10 with a maximum class size of 20. The kindergarten class has a ratio of one teacher to 10 students and a class size of no more than 20.
The school is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Half-day school hours run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., while full-day goes until 4 p.m. Kindergarten hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30pm.
