How did you first get into your profession?
I am a clinical psychologist by training and, although I enjoyed practicing, I wanted to impact care on a systemic level. Thus, I decided to go into healthcare administration.
If you had to choose another profession, what would it be?
I have always enjoyed writing. It is a great way to express yourself and really gets my creative juices flowing.
What was the toughest lesson you’ve learned in your career?
The toughest lesson I learned was to advocate for yourself, because, although you may work hard, you may not get the recognition you deserve if you do not self-advocate.
If you were President, what issue would you address first?
A major issue that we are facing in this country is the unjust treatment of the mentally ill. More mentally ill citizens are in jails than in treatment facilities. I would like to change the system to afford better care.
