What business advice would you give someone just starting in your industry?
For any new business owner, make sure that you have a love and passion for what you are trying accomplish.
What is a little known fact about yourself?
I love to write poetry. People express themselves in many different ways. Some people workout, others have a drink to wind down, but I enjoy putting my feelings on paper. Although I never share my poetry, it allows me to release my emotions and gather my thoughts into something tangible.
What is the biggest challenge your industry is facing?
Real estate is a tough business for anyone to be in these days. Being an appraisal management company (AMC) that specializes in appraisal management vendor services for the state of Nevada, we are seeing a portion of our industry being consumed by unregulated bank owned AMCs.
What do you wish you would have learned at the beginning of your career?
I wish I had been more assertive at the beginning of my career. Being a young business woman, it can be difficult to create the right balance of pleasantness and assertiveness. As a young business woman you have to be cautious on how you go about gaining respect from your peers and staff, without letting them take advantage of your kindness or underestimate you as a female. Especially, when you are in a male dominated industry or profession.
What was the toughest lesson you’ve learned in your career?
The toughest lesson I have learned in my career is accepting rejection. I believe that anything that I put my mind to I can achieve, but rejection has a way of making you question your own abilities. That’s why it is so important to even take rejection and turn it into an opportunity. That opportunity could be a learning experience, inventing a new marketing tactic, the opening of other avenues, and even retaining that person as a future contact. Once you stop fearing rejection and failure, there is nothing else to fear. Let the reject go and let the success come.
