Due to the decrease in hotel room rates, Las Vegas ranks as the top U.S. travel destination according to numbers from Orbitz, an online travel service. Rates are down by an average of 26 percent in 2009. In 2008, rooms cost, on average $115 per night, in 2009, the average was $84 per night.

The University of Southern Nevada (USN) has received specialized accreditation for its Master of Business Administration program from the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education. All USN degree programs are now accredited.
Internal Revenue Service Provides Grant to United Way to Provide Free Tax Preparation
The IRS has granted United Way’s Earn It Keep It Save It program an $85,000 grant to provide free tax preparation services for those earning less than $49,000 in 2009. United Way has also donated $77,000 to help Goodwill build a second career facility in Las Vegas.
1Velocity Has Expanded to Northern Nevada
1Velocity, a Nevada-based telecommunications carrier, has expanded its operations to include Northern Nevada. The company began operations in Las Vegas in 2006, and has built its own metro-area network through the use of millimeter-wave wireless fiber.
First Choice Business Brokers Expanding Nationwide
First Choice Business Brokers (FCBB), a Las Vegas based company that lists and sells businesses, has begun franchising and is expanding nationwide. The company currently has over 20 franchises and has been expanding into select markets in all 50 states. Over half of all agents in Las Vegas that sell businesses work for FCBB.
