NAIOP Study Indicates Amount of Available Land Key to Economy
A study was released by NAIOP’s Southern Nevada Chapter which reports, that despite the current market conditions, the increasing scarcity of land (that could be used for industrial development) in the Southern Nevada region will negatively impact the regions economy over time. It was cited that if Southern Nevada continues to maintain costs for delivered goods at levels 5% above the national average, as it currently does, the expected rate of employment growth will be diminished by 15%.
SK Baseball Seeks Reno City Council’s Assistance
SK Baseball, which is currently building a massive baseball stadium and entertainment center, has been affected by the existing credit and overall economic climate and is now asking the Reno City Council to support its efforts in completing the project. Their talks with the Council are not related to the epicenter of the project, the Reno Aces Baseball stadium, because finances have been secured for the ballpark, due to open on time in April.
Nevada Commission on Tourism Awards Rural Grants
Last week, the Nevada Commission on Tourism awarded 81 grants which enable Nevada’s rural communities to market their attractions and events to the world. The grants total $381,531 and require matching funds or in-kind contributions from rural communities and tourism entities. The grants are the second of two funding cycles, with the first delivery scheduled for June. The grants, which enable rural communities marketing efforts, were passed unanimously by Commissioners at their quarterly meeting. Communities such as, White Pine, Eureka, Lincoln, Jarbidge and Virginia City received funding.
