Mining’s Contribution to Nevada’s Economy at an All-Time High
Nevada’s mining industry experienced a significant increase in taxes paid to the state’s economy and wages paid per mining employee in 2007 were just two of the facts published in the Nevada Mining Association’s annual report. Nevada mines contributed nearly $200M in taxes to the state’s economy, up from approx. $192M in 2006.
Douglas County School District Implements Energy Saving Projects
The Douglas County School District announced that it will move forward with a district-wide series of energy services projects designed to save money. The projects were chosen following a financial grade audit of the district’s schools. Based on the findings of the audit, the district signed a performance contract with a Northern Nevada based firm to implement the projects.
Nevada Gets New Agricultural Self Insured Group
Pro Group Management, a Nevada based developer and administrator of private self insured workers’ compensation groups, has announced the formation of a new agriculturally-oriented self insured group for Nevada. The Nevada Division of Insurance licensed the Self Insured Group (SIG). The Nevada Farm Bureau and The Nevada Cattleman’s Association are the sponsoring entities of the self insured program.
Las Vegas’ Nathan Adelson Hospice Going Green
Harrah’s Entertainment, NV Energy, Ecowall, the Springs Preserve, building experts from Lucchesi Galati and others recently united to provide the hospice with green upgrades. The much-needed renovations include: installing new water-efficient bathroom fixtures, replacing light fixtures to be more energy efficient, weather stripping and planting desert-friendly landscaping around the campus.
