Describe your leadership style:
According to a couple of Web sites I am a participative leader and I think that is pretty accurate. I try to involve everyone in what happens with the company as their future depends on the success of this company as well.
Biggest business challenge:
Growth in a slow economy. When I started this company the economy was already in a downturn so it was a big risk to go out on my own. We have been very fortunate to be able to grow during these difficult economic times.
Best business advice:
Stay focused and keep moving forward. Things will get tough and not happen just as you planned. As long as you keep your goal in mind and are determined, you will achieve it.
Who inspired you to get into the business?
My wife and business partner. She actually hired me about 8 years ago. Through her encouragement and support she gave me the courage to go out on my own. She is a big part of my success.
What is the most important thing you learned from your parents?
My mom taught me to follow my dreams and do the things I wanted to do. She did this by example more than anything else.
What type of employees thrive the most under a participative leader?
Actually participative leadership works well for most employees. It allows them to feel a part of what is going on around them while still having a defined role. In this scenario it is possible to keep not only self starters motivated but even very structure oriented employees. Internally we try to hire people that are pretty self motivated.
