Southern Nevada Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation whose mission is to improve Nevada’s health status through education and outreach. With a large range of training and outreach programs, AHEC strives to serve and support the state’s diverse underserved populations and the health professionals who work with them.
Southern Nevada AHEC provides: continuing education for healthcare professionals; enrichment and health career awareness programs as well as tutoring in math, science and other academic areas for at-risk students; family and life-skills training; and outreach for women who need screening and treatment for breast and cervical cancer. Southern Nevada AHEC provides outreach in underserved communities and introduce services that address critical community health needs.
This month, Southern Nevada AHEC is co-sponsoring the World of Women Expo – “Celebrating the Women in Your Life” –designed to target women of all ages, all income levels and interests. This will be a day of education, exploration, wellness and pampering. Homemakers, decision-makers, moms, grandmothers, friends, sisters and their families from throughout Southern Nevada are expected to attend this free event. Various exhibitors will offer and promote their services to the World of Women who reside in Clark County. This event, sponsored by Southern Nevada AHEC and the Nevada State Health Division’s Women’s Health Connection, will be held in the Stardust Pavilion on Saturday, August 21 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
The World of Women Expo will provide a unique approach to empower all women in the Southern Nevada community with valuable information about resources available to them at little or no cost. The event will explore and celebrate all areas of women’s health and wellness. A sample of what will be available includes:
Mammovan of Nevada for breast cancer screening and referrals
United Blood Services blood drive
Health screenings and information
Raffles and hourly door prize drawings
Three entertaining shows
Various Speakers throughout the day addressing women’s health issues
In addition to providing information about many valuable community services and resources, the first World of Women Expo will focus on “Celebrating the Women in Your Life” by providing a day filled with fun and opportunities for pampering and shopping.
The expo is designed to empower the women of the community, linking them with information about community programs and the resources available to them. They will be provided information about the benefits of health screenings and early detection for breast and cervical cancer.
