From tenant improvements to multi-million dollar projects, ROEL Construction Company, with deep roots in the Las Vegas community, delivers construction services family-style. Headed by Las Vegas resident Stephen Roel, ROEL also has offices in San Diego, Phoenix, Irvine and Palm Springs.
ROEL has completed an impressive portfolio of high-profile projects in Southern Nevada, including Red Rock Country Club’s signature 44,000-square-foot clubhouse, Qualcomm Inc.’s Las Vegas Operation Center, Anthem Country Club’s 37,700-square-foot clubhouse and Siena’s 16,000-square-foot Fitness Center and gatehouse and its recently-completed 36,000-square-foot community center.
Working with more than 200 local subcontractors, ROEL adds the expertise and experience gained over nine decades to every project. From concept through project completion, ROEL brings to the table a wide range of talents, cumulative experience and services, including construction consulting, general construction, tenant improvement/special projects, construction management, structural concrete and surety support. “More than 80 percent of ROEL’s business is either repeat or referral clients,” said Scott Christiansen, ROEL group manager.
ROEL’s other Las Vegas-area projects include the ultra-trendy Whiskey Bar and the popular Trophy’s Restaurant, both in Green Valley Ranch Resort, the new Honda West and Volvo dealerships on West Sahara and the renovation of the historic Boulder City Theatre lobby. ROEL also is working on several tenant improvement projects for retailers in MonteLago Village at Lake Las Vegas and the Fashion Show Mall.
General construction is the core of ROEL’s operations. Many of its projects use the design/assist or design/build methods. In these arrangements, ROEL offers pre-construction services wrapped into the construction contract so the owner, designers and ROEL share a hand-in-hand approach to both design and construction. The advantage to the owner is that this method allows for a quicker design process and fewer changes after the project has begun.
ROEL also has divisions dedicated to tenant improvements, pre-construction services and construction management. Pre-construction services include scheduling, estimating, design developing and value engineering to help each client decide how best to build its project before it is committed to plans for bid. ROEL can also assist in the process of obtaining regulatory approvals, geotechnical and environmental studies, and permitting.
ROEL employees believe in community service, and many are active in community and civic organizations. Recently, ROEL called on its employees and local subcontractors to replace and repair a roof for Safe Nest, a nonprofit organization that has provided domestic violence services in Southern Nevada for over 25 years and runs an emergency shelter. The housing facilities for battered women and children in Las Vegas were in need of serious renovation, and the organization could not afford the help it needed. With the help of ROEL, Red Rock Roofing and Conglas, one roof was replaced and repairs were made to the roofs of the other buildings.
ROEL was founded in North Dakota in 1917 by Tom Roel, who was succeeded in 1936 by his son, Paul. Paul’s widow, Jeanne Roel, still serves on the board of directors and Paul’s son Stephen, who currently serves as chairman, has been active in the family business for more than 30 years. Kevin Elliot, the founders’ great-grandson, serves as president and chief operating officer. Many of the company’s staff are second- and third-generation employees.
A multi-award-winner both for the quality of its projects and the management of its workplace, ROEL Construction has become one of the largest independent general building companies in the western United States, with more than 500 employees and $250 million in revenue.
