Groundbreaking for the residence club project is expected before the end of the year.
Project Planned for Las Vegas Wash
Geotechnical and Environmental Services, Inc. (GES) has been awarded a contract for geotechnical investigation at the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) Demonstration Weir Project, located upstream of the Lake Las Vegas community in Henderson. The $4 million project will replace a rock-fill demonstration weir structure at the Las Vegas Wash to control flood erosion and reclaim wetlands at the Wash. GES’ sister company, Eagle Drilling Services, is drilling borings along the north side of the wash and performing infiltration tests. Mike Stojanoff is serving as manager for the project, which is owned by SNWA.

Gorman High School Plans Move
The Bishop Gorman Development Corporation has signed an agreement with The Howard Hughes Corporation to purchase 35 acres in southwest Las Vegas, in order to relocate the campus of Bishop Gorman High School. School officials said the Catholic college preparatory school has outgrown the Maryland Parkway site it has occupied since its founding in 1954. The new property near Russell Road and Hualapai in Summerlin will allow space to develop between 135,000 and 155,00 square feet of facilities, including academic classrooms, a 200-seat chapel, a state-of-the-art technology center and research library, performing arts venues and athletic facilities. The new campus is expected to cost its owner, the Diocese of Las Vegas, between $35 million and $40 million, $25 million of which it hopes to raise through a capital campaign. Plans call for completion in time for the 2007 school year.
Mold-Detecting Dog Comes to Nevada
A Jack Russell terrier named Trace is Nevada’s latest weapon in the ongoing battle against toxic black mold. A new Las Vegas-based company called Mold Sniffers, Inc. uses Trace and her trained handlers to detect the exact location of mold in homes, schools and commercial buildings. The dog underwent over 1,000 hours of training at the Florida Canine Academy, which also trains dogs to detect explosives and narcotics. Erik Lundgaard, CEO of Mold Sniffers, said, “Trace can get to places faster than people, detect mold in places that people can’t reach and pinpoint areas that may have been missed by other kinds of searches.” Trace is one of only 20 Certified Mold Dogs in the country.
