Las Vegas architecture firm Carpenter Sellers Associates was honored recently at the first annual DESI awards for its design of the Hansen’s Custom Residence (shown above). The custom home received the award for Best Custom Home Design and the Grand Award for best overall project in terms of excellence and innovation. The DESI Awards, a design competition for residential architecture and interior design, is sponsored by the Las Vegas chapters of the American Institute of Architects and American Society of Interior Designers, as well as Finishing Touches magazine.
IRS Building Slated for Downtown Las Vegas
The General Services Administration has announced its award of the new Internal Revenue Service building to PHGSA, LLC, a subsidiary of Paradise Development Company. The $25 million facility will be located on five acres at the northeast corner of Grand Central Parkway and F Street, directly north of the city of Las Vegas’ 61-acre site. The facility will bring approximately 500 to 600 people a day to downtown. The five-acre site also allows the developer to plan future federal government facilities. “This four-story, 90,000 square-foot structure will be a masterpiece design, using brushed-chrome columns against a curtain wall of double-pane decorative glass,” said Paradise Development President Richard Worthington. “In some respects, it will look similar to the recently completed Lloyd George Federal Courthouse building. The chairman of Paradise Development, Irwin Molasky, has designed and developed significant projects in the Las Vegas valley for more than 50 years.
AGC Announces 2003 Officers
The Nevada chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) has named its 2003 officers and board of directors. The Nevada Chapter AGC is comprised of Northern Nevada’s top general contractors, specialty contractors and building professionals, who employ an estimated 9,500 workers and are responsible for approximately $350 million in payroll.
Siena Community Center Underway
Roel Construction Company has erected the steel framework for the 36,000-square-foot community center at Siena, an age-restricted community in Summerlin, a master-planned community at the western edge of Las Vegas. Upon completion in May, the community center will serve as the hub of all social activity at Siena, and will feature a cyber café, a business center, and rooms for arts and crafts, cards and games. The 17,600-square-foot ballroom will be used for a variety of activities, including theater productions, political debates and evening entertainment. Sunrise Colony Company of Las Vegas is the developer and Altevers Associates is the architect. Consultants to the design team include architectural engineer Mendenhall Smith, Inc., civil engineer VTN-Nevada, mechanical engineer Mike Salazar Associates and electrical engineer Konsortium 1. HSA Design is the landscape architect.
Arrowhead Commerce Center Completed
EJM Development Co. recently completed construction of Arrowhead Building 13, a 70,252-square-foot office/warehouse building in the Arrowhead Commerce Center in Green Valley, a master-planned community in Henderson. The office/showroom/warehouse building, divisible into 5,104-square-foot units, features 20-foot high ceilings, skylights, metal halide lighting and evaporative cooling in the warehouse section. The Arrowhead Commerce Center began construction in 1996. To date, EJM has developed approximately 595,000 square feet on 90 acres, with 38 acres remaining for future development and build-to-suits. Spencer Pinter, Mike DeLew and Greg Pancirov of Colliers International are serving as leasing agents for Arrowhead Commerce Center.
