Redevelopment Project Completed
Project developer Irwin Molasky, County Commissioner Myrna Williams, Store Manager Eileen Chapman, Clark County Commissioner Dario Herrera and Vons District Manager Dean Little participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 16 at the grand opening of Vons market and fuel center in the Park Place Shopping Center. The $16 million redevelopment project at Maryland Parkway and Twain in Las Vegas includes 7.1 acres of retail space. The remaining 8.9 acres of the original parcel, first developed in 1974, was sold to Clark County for use as a community park. Park Place Shopping Center is a joint venture between the Molasky Companies and Laurich Properties, Inc.
Harsch Plans New Industrial Center
Harsch Investment Properties has announced the purchase of 42 acres of land to build Henderson Commerce Center II in the Black Mountain Industrial Center in Henderson. Harsch purchased the parcel from The LandWell Company, owner of the master-planned Black Mountain center, for $7.7 million and plans to break ground during the third quarter of 2002. The property is located near Harsch’s recently completed Henderson Commerce Center North. The new industrial development will total approximately 800,000 square feet of flex and industrial distribution space in eight buildings. All buildings will provide state-of-the-art amenities, including ceiling heights up to 30 feet, truck docks and drive-in doors, along with ESFR sprinkler systems, skylights and metal halide warehouse lighting. Harsch, which recently acquired the Las Vegas Motor Speedway industrial park for $44 million, owns and operates business parks throughout Southern Nevada.
Reno YMCA Expands Youth Center
General contractor M.C. Neuffer Company (MCN) was recently awarded a contract to expand the YMCA of the Sierra youth center, located at 1290 Foster Drive in Reno. Upon completion, the Link Piazzo Youth Center, which is currently housed in a converted squash court, will contain over 11,000 square feet of space for fitness and recreational activities. With groundbreaking scheduled for this month, MCN plans to have the expansion completed by September 2002. Reno-based Cathexes, Inc. designed the addition, described as “contemporary and dynamic” by Allyson Wong of Cathexes. MCN, specializing in commercial, design/build and management projects, was awarded the 2000 General Contractor of the Year Award by the American Institute of Architects.
Ritz-Carlton Resort Topped Off
The $170 million Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas resort and spa held an official topping-off ceremony on January 14. The nine-story, 360,000-square-foot Ritz-Carlton hotel will contain: 283 guest rooms; meeting and banquet facilities including a 12,000-square-foot grand ballroom; and a 30,000-square-foot spa with fitness center and two swimming pools. As part of the hotel, a bridge built on three levels will span 375 feet across the lake’s inner harbor. The first level of the bridge is an esplanade with upscale retail boutiques, waterside restaurants, outdoor cafes and a pedestrian walkway. Levels two and three will feature 67 guest rooms overlooking the lake. General contractor for the project is Perini Building Company. Scheduled to open in November 2002, the resort is the centerpiece of Lake Las Vegas Resort’s newest community, Montelago Village, a 1,370-acre, $500 million resort and commercial complex set on 50 acres of lakefront property.
Colonial Bank Plaza Completes Phase I
Colonial Bank Plaza, a 6.7-acre office park near Fort Apache and Tropicana Avenue in Las Vegas, recently completed construction of its first phase. The development represents the first large-scale, Class A office project along the new southwest I-215 beltway, according to Judi Woodyard, executive vice president of The Equity Group, leasing agents for the park. A joint venture of Daycor Properties and Westar Development Properties, the office park will consist of two Class A office buildings equipped with fiber optics, grand lobbies and common areas. Phase I, a two-story, 45,000-square-foot building, is 95 percent leased, with tenants including Colonial Bank, Beazer Homes, Lawyers Title, AMEC Infrastructure and Scott Lee, DMD. Phase II, which recently began construction, is a three-story, 66,000-square-foot building scheduled for occupancy in June 2002.
