PERINI COMPLETES WORK ON SHADE TREE SHELTER
Dick Rizzo, chairman of Perini Building Company, participated in the recent grand opening of The Shade Tree Shelter, a 38,000-square-foot, three-story shelter for homeless women and children in Southern Nevada. The building was designed by architects Scott L. Baker and Cyrus Najafi and built by Perini Building Company. The shelter contains space for 354 beds, a kitchen, an infirmary and classrooms, as well as staff offices. Perini and its subcontractors agreed to build the shelter at cost, and Perini also presented the Shade Tree board with a check for $150,000 during the dedication ceremony. An additional $10,000 donation came from a golf tournament the company sponsored on behalf of Shade Tree. The structure was funded by a $5 million grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation; additional funding was provided by grants from Clark County and the cities of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas.
Work Proceeds At Green Valley Corporate Center
American Nevada Corp. is actively pre-leasing 73,205 square feet of multi-use flex space in a two-building project under construction at 2300 and 2310 Corporate Circle, in the 90-acre Green Valley Corporate Center in Henderson. Howard Thompson and Associates is the architect and OB Construction, Inc. is general contractor for the tilt-up buildings, slated for completion in January. American Nevada recently completed and is actively leasing a Class A office building nearby, at 2275 Corporate Circle. The three-story, 66,800-square-foot office building has state-of-the-art fiber optic technologies and redundant power capabilities.
Liquor Distributors Move to New Facility
DeLuca Liquor & Wine, Ltd. and Coors of Las Vegas have moved into a 300,000-square-foot facility in the Hughes Cheyenne Center in North Las Vegas. The state-of-the-art distribution center, including office, warehouse and merchandising space, will consolidate all operations into a single facility. Constructed with 12-inch-thick and 54-feet-high concrete tilt-up walls, the distribution center was designed by Lucchesi, Galati Architects, Inc. and built by Precision Construction. The warehouse stands 41 feet high and contains 80,000 square feet of refrigerated space.
Homer Award Winners for 2000 Announced
Deb Webb Communities won five awards, including Home of the Year, at the Homer Awards banquet in October. Del Webb’s Anthem #15154/Estate Series at Sun City Anthem in Henderson was named the 2000 Home of the Year by a committee of judges comprised of industry experts from outside Nevada. Del Webb also won awards for three Sun City Anthem single-family detached homes, and the Anthem sales pavilion was named Best Sales Office. Other winners were: Nigro Associates, Amstar Homes, Desert Wind Homes, John Laing Homes, Westmark Homes, Sunrise Colony Company, Chartered Homes, Pacific Southwest Development, U.S. Homes and Astoria Homes. The Southern Nevada Home Builders Association developed the awards program 17 years ago to honor the efforts of builders in Southern Nevada.
High-Tech Firm Relocates to South Meadows Business Park
HETRON, a manufacturer of precision temperature and radiation sensors, has signed a lease to move into a 10,000-square-foot building at 725 Trademark in the South Meadows Business Park. Dave Simonsen, an industrial broker with Colliers International, helped the company find a building to fit its highly specialized needs, which included more electrical power, utilities distribution and roof strength than available in most properties on the market. The building is scheduled for completion in February, after the completion of tenant improvements to accommodate HETRON’s requirements.
Construction Begins on SunMark Plaza
Laurich Properties and The Molasky Companies recently began construction on one of the largest shopping center developments in Southern Nevada. SunMark Plaza, a 500,000-square-foot retail “power center,” is located at Sunset Road and Marks Street in Henderson. The project, with an estimated value at build-out of $75 million, is scheduled to open next summer. Several national retailers have committed to leases on the 40-acre parcel of land, including Best Buy, JoAnns Etc., Chevron and Costco. SunMark Plaza is the eighth joint venture for the two developers.
Corporate Pointe Business Center Marks Summerlin Centre Development
The Howard Hughes Corporation is beginning active development of Summerlin Centre, the urban town center of the Summerlin master-planned community in Las Vegas. One of the first major facilities under construction within Summerlin Centre is Corporate Pointe, a 62-acre business park located on West Charleston Boulevard west of Town Center Drive. One building in Corporate Pointe has been completed, and two more buildings are currently under construction at the business park, which is planned to include five buildings comprising approximately 700,000 square feet. Corporate Pointe is the first of four planned business parks in Summerlin Centre, which will eventually contain more than 5 million total square feet of office and retail space.
New Warehouse Built at Red Rock Business Center
Panattoni Development Company is expanding its presence in the Reno area with the recent construction of a 336,000-square-foot manufacturing warehouse in the Red Rock Business Center. The architectural firm of Blakely, Johnson & Ghusn, Inc. of Reno designed the speculative facility, which features 30-foot clear height, an Early Suppression Fast Response fire suppression system and 3,000 amp electrical service. Panattoni completed its first building in the business park in September, an 87,624-square-feet manufacturing facility constructed for Tyco International.
Firmani Corporation Developing Mesa Ridge Towne Centre
Firmani Corporation, a Las Vegas-based real estate developer, has completed preliminary site work at Mesa Ridge Towne Centre, a commercial/retail site located on the south side of Russell Road near Mountain Vista. The 18-acre property consists of two 65,000-square-foot pads on top of the large mesa, with up to nine pads on a lower level, and 2,100 feet of frontage on Russell Road. Firmani has completed work on an access road leading to the top of the mesa. Preliminary plans for the site indicate it can accommodate over 138,000 square feet of building space.
Clark & Sullivan Tops Off Spanish Springs High School
Clark & Sullivan Constructors recently held a topping off ceremony at Spanish Springs High School in Sparks. The skeleton of the building has been completed and the school is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2001 in time for the next school year. The two-story, 250,000-square-foot school building has been designed to accommodate 1,800 students initially, with room for expansion to 2,000. Spanish Springs will house the largest main gymnasium in the Washoe County School District, as well as an all-weather track. The building was designed by The Moore Collaborative & BJSS Group.
