Volunteers needed for post-season cleanup effort that includes trash pickup at the resort and surrounding areas in Upper Lee Canyon

Las Vegas (May 19, 2010) -Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort (LVSSR) is in need of volunteers for its annual post-season cleanup, Keep Our Forest Clean Day, on Saturday, June 5, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers will receive a complimentary scenic chairlift ride and are welcome to attend a barbecue lunch that includes beverages on the base lodge deck immediately following the cleanup. Individuals or groups can register by emailing ridenski@lvssr.com. Business, community and social groups are encouraged to register.

The event involves trash pickup on the slopes, base and parking areas, and surrounding recreation sites in Upper Lee Canyon on Highway 156, such as the Lee Canyon Meadow. Participants should dress in hiking attire and be prepared for a day in the outdoors by bringing sunscreen, a hat, proper eyewear and footwear, as well as clothing appropriate for the day's weather forecast. (Visit www.skilasvegas.com for a weather update.) LVSSR will provide water for volunteers throughout the day.

"Our annual cleanup is a lot of fun and a great way for locals who value the preservation of the Lee Canyon area to get to know one another," says Craig Baldwin, LVSSR's base operations manager. "With this being such a successful year for LVSSR in terms of the length of our season and number of skier visits, we have a big job ahead of us. The abundance of snow drew an increased number of people to the informal recreation and snow play sites, like the Lee Canyon Meadow, so as the snow begins to melt we're seeing the impact."

LVSSR 2009/10 Ski Season Extension - 2

This year's El Nino weather pattern has heavily influenced the snowfall in the southwest U.S. Due to the high-level snowpack in the Spring Mountain National Recreation Area; LVSSR was the only resort in Nevada to extend its season, which was the longest in its 47-year history. According to this year's preliminary Kottke National End of the Season Survey, this year the U.S. ski industry recorded its second-best season ever with a total of 59.7 million visits. Nationally, skier visits rose 4.2 percent, and in the Pacific Southwest skier visits increased by 15 percent.

Current 2009-2010 LVSSR season passholders can renew their passes online, and new members may purchase 2010-2011 season passes starting Monday, May 24. Season passholders receive a 20 percent discount at LVSSR's sister resorts, including Soda Springs Winter Resort, Boreal Mountain Resort and Donner Summit, all in California; Park City Mountain Resort in Utah; Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort in Oregon; Killington and Pico Resorts in Vermont; and Copper Mountain Resort in Colorado.
