Las Vegas, NV - Lionel Sawyer & Collins attorney Doreen Spears Hartwell was named a Local Hero at Bank of America's fifth annual Neighborhood Excellence Initiative Awards event held November 18, 2008 at the Springs Preserve.

Hartwell is a shareholder in Lionel Sawyer & Collins' Litigation Department. Bank of America's Local Heroes™ are recognized as community leaders who contribute significantly to the health of local neighborhoods; as Local Heroes™, they are given the opportunity to direct a $5,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to an eligible nonprofit organization of their choice. Hartwell chose the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada to be a grant recipient.

Since 2001 Hartwell has provided more than 435 hours of free legal representation to low income persons referred to her by Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada (formerly Clark County Legal Services). She is the 2001 recipient of the Myrna Williams Children's Pro Bono Award and the 2005 recipient of the Judge Sally Loehrer Pro Bono Service Award. She also serves as a volunteer with Make-A-Wish Foundation, and is active in the Las Vegas Chapter of the National Bar Association Foundation, UNLV Boyd School of Law Mentor Program, and Clark County Bar Association Trial by Peers Committee.
