Target General Completes Mesquite School

Las Vegas-based Target General Inc. recently completed construction on the Charles Arthur Hughes Middle School complex in Mesquite. The project involved nine separate buildings totaling 92,000 square feet. Target General’s scope of work included complete general contracting services for all structures, site work for athletic facilities, and on-site and off-site improvements. KGA Associates, which served as the architect for the project, designed the school to follow the natural topography of the adjacent Virgin River, and the flat and angled forms of the buildings were inspired by the natural landscape of mountains surrounding the valley. The school also features translucent ceiling panels that provide diffused daylight. Chuck Jackson served as project manager and Bill Purington as superintendent of the $16.2 million project.

SNHBA Building Wins Landscape Award

The Southern Nevada Water Authority presented a First Place Award in its 2003 Landscape Awards to the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association (SNHBA) and Landscape Services Inc. (LSI) for the water-conserving re-landscaping of the SNHBA building. The awards recognize properties that have been upgraded to xeriscape, a water-efficient version of landscaping. Landscape and irrigation professionals, horticulturists and gardening experts served as judges for the competition. The award was presented for Phase 2 of a re-landscaping project at the building, completed this spring. The third and final phase of the re-landscaping project is expected to be completed later this year. The project involves the removal of turf and the installation of water-efficient xeriscaping at the SNHBA building.
