Sparks Manufacturer Expands Facility
Carlo Gavazzi Mupac, Inc. recently enlarged its facility in Sparks with a 30,000-square-foot addition. The floor space will provide increased capacity for manufacturing and assembly equipment. CG Mupac, an international company, designs and manufactures standard and custom single-board computers, chassis and integrated system products.
Convention Authority Purchases Property
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has completed the purchase of a 10-acre parcel just east of the Las Vegas Convention Center on Desert Inn Road. The property currently contains the 310-room World Trade Center hotel, which will be demolished and replaced with a 1,100-space parking lot. An office building and a 20,000-square-foot warehouse on the site will continue to be used as support facilities for the Las Vegas Convention Center, whose 1.3 million-square-foot South Hall expansion is scheduled to open in November.

Sysco to Construct Distribution Center
Sysco Food Services of Las Vegas, a subsidiary of food service giant SYSCO Corporation, has announced plans to construct a 275,000-square-foot distribution center in North Las Vegas on property it recently purchased at the corner of Centennial Parkway and Mt. Hood Road. Brokers for the transaction were Michael G. DeLew and Todd Long of Colliers International in Las Vegas. The design/build contractor for the project is Big D Construction, based in Salt Lake City. The facility, slated for completion in the third quarter of 2002, will include multi-temperature warehouse storage areas as well as administrative offices. Approximately 400 people will be employed at the center, which will supply food and related products to restaurants, healthcare facilities, schools, hotels and other commercial establishments throughout Southern Nevada, Southern Utah and Northern Arizona.
The Howard Hughes Corp. to Develop Office Complex
The Howard Hughes Corporation has started construction on a 58,000-square-foot build-to-suit office headquarters for R&R Partners, one of Nevada’s largest advertising and public relations firms. The facility will be the fifth building in Corporate Pointe, a 62-acre business park located in Summerlin Centre on West Charleston Boulevard in Las Vegas. The new building was designed by JMA Architecture Studios in association with Luchessi Galati Architects, which is also providing interior design services. General contractor Martin Harris plans to complete the building by the end of 2001.
Town Center Project Planned for Northwest Las Vegas
Las Vegas-based Montecito Companies is planning to develop the largest town center in the United States on a 200-acre parcel located at U.S. Highway 95 and the Las Vegas Beltway. The Montecito Town Center at build-out will include approximately 10 million square feet of retail, office, medical, residential and entertainment facilities, including a regional mall. Additional development plans include 60 acres of upscale residential housing and more than 100 acres of parks and other public areas. The Montecito Companies is an umbrella organization headed by long-time developers Bob Schulman, chairman, and Frank Nielsen, president.
Dickson Realty Affiliates with ONCOR International
Reno-based Dickson Realty’s commercial group has formed a partnership with ONCOR International, which recently ranked second in total volume of all international commercial brokerages. ONCOR’s worldwide system includes more than 2,255 brokers in more than 200 markets. Dickson Commercial Group, now known as Dickson Commercial-ONCOR International, will serve as the network brokerage for the entire Northern Nevada region. Dickson Realty has two offices in Reno, with more than 140 brokers and agents.
