M.J. Dean Completes Fairfield Las Vegas

M.J. Dean Construction has completed construction of the Fairfield Las Vegas timeshare project situated on seven acres at 265 E. Harmon Ave. near the Las Vegas Strip. The 12-story, 410,000-square-foot building contains 184 luxury timeshare units, a health club, food court and swimming pool. The structure features mansard roofs, a porte-cochère entrance and two-level subterranean parking. Developer for the $50 million project is Fairfield Communities, the largest vacation ownership company in the United States, with resort properties at 33 locations in 12 states and the Bahamas. Fairfield intends to build a 17-story, 123-unit tower as Phase II of the development. Architect for the project was Morris Architects of Orlando, Fla.

Work Continues on MagnuM Distribution Center

MagnuM Opus Development is continuing construction of largest warehouse under construction in Southern Nevada, the MagnuM Distribution Center, a 346,500-square-foot, master-planned warehouse/distribution center in northern Las Vegas. The $14 million development is situated on an 18-acre parcel at Lamb Boulevard and Cecile Avenue. The multi-tenant distribution facility will consist of 14 units, each divisible to 23,625 square feet. Each will have 30-foot ceilings, five dock doors, one grade-level door, two man-doors and an individual storefront entrance. The units come equipped with gas heat, evaporative cooling and sprinkler systems, with high-speed data lines available if needed. United Construction is serving as the general contractor and architect for the project, which is scheduled for completion in August 2001.

Large Developers Join Forces on BLM Project

A partnership composed of the Del Webb Corporation and American Nevada Corporation submitted the winning bid at an auction of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land held on May 9. The developers will pay $47.2 million for 1,905 acres of a 7,500-acre parcel of undeveloped land in North Las Vegas. Preliminary plans for the site call for a master-planned community with commercial areas, an age-qualified housing component and traditional single-family homes. American Nevada Corporation is best known for developing the master-planned communities of Green Valley, Green Valley Ranch and Seven Hills in Henderson. Del Webb Corporation, the nation’s leading developer of lifestyle-based communities, has completed several projects in Southern Nevada. Del Webb’s recent purchase by Pulte Homes will reportedly not affect the North Las Vegas project.

Mandalay Bay To Build Convention Center

Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino has announced plans to build a proposed three-level, 1.8 million-square-foot convention center complex, which will include more than 1 million square feet of exhibit space suitable for industry trade shows and large meetings. The new facility will also include the largest hotel ballroom in the nation, a 100,000-square-foot pillar-less "MegaBallroom", in addition to a 50,000-square-foot "Junior Ballroom". The state-of-the-art facility, which will sit on 16.5 acres adjacent to the existing Mandalay Bay Conference Center, will feature some of newest developments in voice, data and fiber-optic transmission capabilities.

Trammell Crow Signs Reno Tenants

Trammell Crow Company-Reno/Sparks has arranged for three tenants to lease space in Reno office buildings. Dain Rauscher, one of the nation’s largest full-service security firms, will lease 10,000 square feet in the Nevdex building at the corner of McCarran and Kietzke. Total value of the five-year office lease is $1.1 million. New York Life has signed a $1.3 million, five-year office lease in downtown Reno’s Bank of America Plaza building. Trammell Crow also signed CLP Resources, Inc. to a $1.3 million, five-year lease in south Reno’s newest high-tech business campus, Sierra Corporate Center. CLP Resources, based in Reno, is the largest supplier of skilled tradespeople and construction labor in the United States.
