Medical grants help Nevada families pay for children’s medical expenses not covered, or not fully covered, by a commercial health insurance plan

The UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation (UHCCF) is seeking grant applications from families in need of financial assistance to help pay for their child’s health care treatments, services or equipment not covered, or not fully covered, by their commercial health insurance plan.

Qualifying families can receive up to $5,000 per grant to help pay for medical services and equipment such as physical, occupational and speech therapy, counseling services, surgeries, prescriptions, wheelchairs, orthotics, eyeglasses and hearing aids.

To be eligible for a grant, children must be 16 years of age or younger. Families must meet economic guidelines, reside in the United States and have a commercial health insurance plan. Grants are available for medical expenses families have incurred 60 days prior to the date of application as well as for ongoing and future medical needs. Parents or legal guardians may apply for grants at www.uhccf.org, and there is no application deadline. Organizations or private donors can make tax-deductible donations to UHCCF at www.uhccf.org. Donations are used for grants to help children and families in the region in which they are received.

“The UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation is dedicated to improving a child’s health and quality of life by making it easier to access needed medical-related services. The grants enable families to focus on their children’s health instead of worrying about how they’ll pay their medical bills,” said Don Giancursio, chief executive officer, UnitedHealthcare of Nevada. Eligible families are encouraged to apply online for a medical grant today and take advantage of this valuable resource.”

In 2012, UHCCF awarded more than 1,300 grants, worth more than $4.1 million,to families across the United States, including more than $27,000 in Nevada, for treatments associated with medical conditions such as cancer, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, diabetes, hearing loss, autism, cystic fibrosis, Down syndrome, ADHD and cerebral palsy. As successful fund-raising efforts continue to grow, UHCCF is hoping to help more children and families in 2013.

About UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation

The UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation (UHCCF) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charity that strives to enhance either the clinical condition or quality of life of children who have health care needs not fully covered by their commercial health benefit plan. UHCCF provides medical grants of up to $5,000 for costs associated with medical services and equipment. UHCCF’s funding is provided by contributions from individuals, corporations and UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) employees. Donations to help provide assistance are deeply appreciated. To apply, donate or learn more, please visit www.uhccf.org.

LAS VEGAS – De Castroverde Law Group, a local personal injury, criminal defense and immigration law firm founded in 2005 by brothers Alex and Orlando De Castroverde, recently completed an expansion that doubles the size of its downtown office building at 1149 South Maryland Parkway, across the street from Huntridge Circle Park.

“We founded our practice downtown seven years ago with the goal of growing, and in that time, we’ve really enjoyed becoming a part of this neighborhood and community,” said Alex De Castroverde. “We’ve been fortunate to not only grow our staff substantially, but to have been embraced by the neighborhood. When we finally outgrew our original office building, we knew we couldn’t leave this area.”

De Castroverde Law Group has been in its current location since 2006. It now employs 32 people, including eight attorneys. The expansion process began in late September 2012, with the demolition of an empty building next to the current law offices.

The office expansion adds 2,500 square feet to the existing office structure, which was also about 2,500 square feet. Alex said the additional space includes five new offices, a new conference room and an expanded lobby, as well as additional workspaces.

The building that was demolished to make room for the expansion was the childhood home of former Nevada Governor and U.S. Senator Richard Bryan. After the Bryan family sold the home in the late 1960s, it was expanded and used for a variety of commercial purposes, including a western art gallery.

“This neighborhood has benefited from a huge effort toward revitalization, and we’re proud to be a part of that,” said Orlando De Castroverde. “As revitalization efforts continue throughout the neighborhood and next door at the Huntridge Theater, we’re excited to continue to grow as well, and to be good neighbors and leaders in this community.”

About De Castroverde Law Group
Founded by brothers Alex and Orlando De Castroverde in January 2005, De Castroverde Law Group practices in the areas of personal injury, criminal defense and immigration law. Opening Memorial Day weekend, the new multimillion dollar water park is conducting eBay auctions for the inaugural rides on its Rattler, Constrictor, Hoover Half Pipe and Royal Flush Extreme slides – among its signature attractions. The Andre Agassi Foundation for Education will receive proceeds from the Rattle and Constrictor auctions, and Opportunity Village will benefit from the Hoover Half Pipe and Royal Flush Extreme.

The auctions began today and end at noon on Thursday, May 23. To bid or for details, click Rattler - http://ow.ly/l6EZ4, Constrictor - http://ow.ly/l6EVU, Hoover Half Pipe - http://ow.ly/l6F3f, and Royal Flush Extreme - http://ow.ly/l6ESe. Upon completion, participants will receive immediate notification about their winning bid and ride that will take place on Friday, May 24 during Wet ‘n’ Wild’s private grand opening party. The packages also include four tickets to the grand opening event with a cabana for the evening, souvenir gift bag and complimentary meal service.

Auction winners may transfer their May 24 ride to another. For details on rider height and weight information, visit the park’s website at www.wetnwildlasvegas.com.

“Auctioning the first official rides on the Rattler, Constrictor, Hoover Half Pipe and Royal Flush Extreme is a fun way to open Wet ‘n’ Wild Las Vegas, get people involved, and support two great local organizations that make a real difference in the community,” said Takuya Ohki, Wet ‘n’ Wild Las Vegas general manager. “We look forward to a long relationship with both the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education and Opportunity Village.”

The Andre Agassi Foundation for Education’s mission is to transform public education through the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy, a tuition free public charter school, and by influencing state and national policy. Agassi is an investor in Wet ‘n’ Wild Las Vegas.

Opportunity Village serves people in the Southern Nevada community with significant intellectual and related disabilities to improve their lives and the lives of their families.

“We chose the Rattler, Constrictor, Hoover Half Pipe and Royal Flush Extreme for the auction because they are expected to be among our most anticipated and popular slides, and will help raise the most money for the two charities,” said Ohki, adding he expects sell-out days during the first weeks after the park opens. “There’s so much excitement for Wet ‘n’ Wild to open, and we look forward to entertaining everyone throughout the season.”

Slide descriptions are:

Rattler – This four-person ride is a first-of-its-kind slide in North America, taking riders through a series of twists and turns on their descent more than 360 feet to the splash down pool. Two distinct “rattles” shake them back and forth, delivering sensational oscillations and tons of wall time.

Constrictor – This attraction has been voted a Top 5 water slide by the Travel Channel’s 2012 Extreme Water Parks program. Riders will slip and slide their way into the belly of the snake on a multi-person raft, taking on the world’s tightest turns. They will speed down the enclosed flume into a series of corkscrew turns, snaking back and forth in spirals at speeds up to 18 miles per hour.

Hoover Half Pipe – This category five river rapid experience has all the fun of whitewater rafting. There’s an unexpected 57-foot drop before the raft goes vertical, shooting up the Hoover wall and sending riders back down and experiencing sheer weightlessness before exiting into calm waters below.

Royal Flush Extreme – Guests enter an enclosed tube before being dropped into a giant bowl, fighting centrifugal forces as they swirl around before being flushed down the center in a tube and into the splash down below.

Wet ‘n’ Wild Las Vegas is in the final stages of construction in preparation for its Memorial Day weekend opening. It is located at 7055 S. Fort Apache Rd., just west of the I-215 and W. Sunset Road exit.

The park opens for Wet ‘n’ Wild Gold Pass holders May 25 to 27, Season and Gold Pass holders May 28 to June 2, and all ticket holders beginning June 3. Pre-season discounts for the Season Pass and Gold Pass end June 2 with regular pass pricing beginning June 3.

Park managers are pleased with the overwhelming response to Wet ‘n’ Wild since it was announced and are expecting sell-out days during the initial weeks of operation.

LAS VEGAS (May 16, 2013) – The PENTA Building Group announced today the completion of the North Las Vegas Readiness Center.

The 68,000-square-foot facility, which the Nevada National Guard will utilize for training, includes a main building with an auditorium, assembly hall, multiple classrooms, office area, storage area, locker room and security vault. A smaller security building is also on site.

PENTA’s contract for the $24 million project was issued and administered by Nevada State Public Works. Construction began in December 2011. The North Las Vegas Readiness Center was completed and officially turned over to the National Guard in April, a formal grand opening was held on May 14, 2013.

“The PENTA Building Group is honored to complete such an important facility for the state of Nevada and the National Guard,” said Paul Dutmer, assistant project manager for PENTA. “As a Nevada-based company, it brings us great pride to provide such a valuable resource to the local men and women who defend our country.”

As many as 200 workers per day were involved during the peak construction of the project, Dutmer said. PENTA utilized about 20 subcontractors.

The North Las Vegas Readiness Center is designed according to the National Guard’s advanced defense standards.

Members of the Nevada National Guard will carry out their one-weekend-per-month service at the center. Dutmer explained the urgent need for a new National Guard facility, as the neighboring Floyd Edsall training center has experienced overcrowding.

“The new readiness center gives members of the Nevada National Guard a better opportunity to learn,” Dutmer said. “This facility provides the space and security needed to give the best possible training to these brave men and women.”
