LAS VEGAS – Bank of Nevada CEO John Guedry was awarded the Lee Business School Alumnus of the Year Award during a special ceremony honoring University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) graduates for their outstanding contributions to the university, and the community at large.
Guedry received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the Lee Business School in 1982. He attributes the completion of his degree at UNLV with providing him valuable life lessons.
“As the middle son of a single mom who always stressed the importance of education, receiving a degree from UNLV at that time, helped instill in me a confidence I did not already possess in myself,” said Guedry. “It showed me I could achieve those things I set my mind to, which helped immensely as I began my career in banking.”
Guedry has spent 35 years in the financial sector, joining Bank of Nevada in 2011. He was promoted to CEO in 2015.
Guedry has worked for many years to address the challenges facing the public education system in Southern Nevada. He and his wife, Debbie, founded the annual Business + Education (BE) Engaged Summit, which encourages the business community to assist efforts improving public education.
Mr. Guedry has also served on a number of philanthropic boards, and is the immediate past chairman of the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Trustees. The Public Education Foundation presented Guedry with the Education Hero Award in 2015.
A total of 19 UNLV graduates were recognized during the annual UNLV Alumni Award ceremony on April 26, 2017.
