Bill Brewer recognized for his commitment to equal housing opportunity in Nevada
Carson City – The Silver State Fair Housing Council awarded its SSFHC HEART Award on Wednesday to Nevada Rural Housing Authority Deputy Director Bill Brewer. The HEART Award is presented by the SSFHC Board of Trustees to an individual in the community whose activities promote the goals of fair housing. Brewer has been selected for the award for his shared vision of “neighbors learning to appreciate their similarities and differences,” said SSFHC.
Brewer is a 30-year housing executive veteran. He first began working for the Farmers Home Administration (FmHA) and in 1994 he became the first Housing Program Director for the new Nevada State Office of FmHA, which subsequently became the state office of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development. During his tenure as program director at USDA, Bill was responsible for the investment of more than $1 billion in rural Nevada, assisting hundreds of families with their dream of homeownership.
“Bill’s experience serves both NRHA and Nevada’s rural communities in an unmatched capacity,” said NRHA Executive Director Gary Longaker. “While he has extensive experience in developing and implementing housing programs, fostering public-private partnerships and overseeing all aspects of loan making and servicing, his passion for our rural communities is the firepower behind his success. He truly cares about our rural residents and it shows in every decision he makes.”
Brewer is a long-time member of the Nevada Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and has served on its Board of Directors for 10 years. He grew up in Shawnee, Okla., attended Oklahoma State University, and taught vocational agriculture there for several years.
SSFHC believes that equal housing opportunity is a right, not a privilege, and that housing should be available to all members of our community, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, familial status, or disability.
