Workforce Connections, Southern Nevada’s Local Workforce Development Board (LWDB), awarded $11,847,000 million in federal funds from the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) to ten local nonprofit workforce agencies for the 2016-2017 fiscal year, with the goal of training and employing a ready workforce in Southern Nevada.
Nonprofit agencies that provide employment and training services responded to Request for Proposals (RFPs) to be considered for the federal funding. The funding targets adults who are re-entering the workforce and face barriers to employment, adults who have been laid off or terminated from employment, and youth who are seeking help to start or strengthen careers.
The funding also supports the local One-Stop Delivery System, which includes the comprehensive One-Stop Career Center at 6330 W Charleston Blvd #190, Las Vegas, NV 89146 and four affiliate One-Stop sites operated by partner agencies. Together, the centers provide accessible services throughout Southern Nevada and improve long-term employment outcomes for those seeking assistance.

In responding to the RFPs, each agency detailed existing and future programs, their success rates in training and placing jobseekers into employment, population served, tracking and accountability methods, among other benchmarks. Those proposals were scored by an independent third party on a detailed point system. Selected applicants were recommended to the full board for funding approval.
“Our goal is to maximize the federal funds by reaching as many Southern Nevadans as possible with an array of services designed to help secure sustainable careers in our changing local workforce, while providing accountability and transparency to our community.” said Ardell Galbreth, Workforce Connections executive director.
