LAS VEGAS – Provenance Healthcare, a leading genetic evaluation and healthcare provider headquartered in Las Vegas, is proud to announce the addition of Anna Victorine, MS, CGC as their full-time genetic counselor.
As genetic counselor, Victorine uses an individual’s unique medical and family history to tailor a customized discussion about risks of genetic disease, genetic testing options and management recommendations. She is also able to order and interpret genetic tests.
“Anna’s addition to our team as genetic counselor benefits our patients and healthcare providers, giving them more tools and information and enhancing the well-being of our patients,” said Mark Black, president and CEO of Provenance Healthcare.
Victorine stresses that it is important for patients to understand the implications, benefits and limitations of their genetic test prior to initiating the testing. Genetic counselors are specially trained to navigate complex world of genetic testing to ensure that the correct test is ordered and then interpreted properly.
“Genetic counseling is a crucial component of the genetic testing process,” said Victorine. “Counseling ensures that patients are making informed decisions about their healthcare. Unlike other medical tests, genetic tests often impact multiple family members and may guide treatments and screening options for conditions.”
Previously, Victorine provided prenatal and preconception genetic counseling for local patients.
Victorine is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. She attained her Master of Science degree in medical and molecular genetics from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana and her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
Victorine has published articles in the American Journal of Medical Genetics, Perspectives in Genetic Counseling and the Public Library of Science. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the National Society of Genetic Counselors, American Counseling Association and the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics. She also has provided guest lectures at the College of Southern Nevada and Nevada State College on a variety of topics and always encourages students to consider a career in genetic counseling.
