Beckwourth, CA.—Care Flight is expanding its emergency medical helicopter service into Plumas County with the opening of its Beckwourth, California base at the Nervino Airport. A ribbon cutting and community open house to be held on Saturday, June 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. will mark the occasion. During the event, the public is invited to enjoy refreshments, meet the Care Flight #4 Beckwourth crew, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the interior and technical details of the helicopter.
Since April 2015, the helicopter has been available at the base, however crew quarters and final details preparing the base for a 24-hour operation were being completed. The base will be operated 24-hours per day and seven days per week. It now features modular unit accommodations for the crew, as well as full-service helicopter maintenance equipment and fuel available onsite.
This specialized critical care helicopter program supports and assists the Plumas County emergency medical services, fire departments and law enforcement agencies with care and transport for critically ill or injured patients in rural areas. This service will make the transfer of critical patients out of emergency rooms, as well as scene response, much faster. It will be readily available when a patient requires further medical assistance at a tertiary hospital in Reno, or for transports to other hospitals as far as the Bay Area.
“Care Flight has a long and successful partnership with the healthcare providers and first responders in Plumas County,” said Dean Dow, President and CEO, REMSA. “The addition of this base will allow Care Flight to service an expansive area of northeastern California with lifesaving treatment and fast transport. We are pleased to have the chance to support the critical healthcare needs of this community.”
Care Flight is a program of REMSA, the Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority. It has been caring for citizens of northern Nevada and eastern California for 35 years, celebrating its anniversary in 2016.
