CSN invites students to sign up for classes, begin orientation process
LAS VEGAS – Open enrollment for the fall 2016 semester begins May 21 for new admitted students at the College of Southern Nevada, while current students can register at any time. Classes begin Aug. 29.
The college’s traditional CSN Connections events, featuring student clubs, college schools and departments, and information about advising, transferring and counseling, will be held the first week of school on all three campuses, as well.
In addition to general education classes like biology, math and communication, CSN is also offering an array of unusual courses, such as health and culture, the cultural phenomenon of zombies, wedding photography, and the history of witchcraft.
As a reminder, all new-to-CSN, degree-seeking recent Nevada high school graduates are required to complete the First Steps program, which includes orientation, English, reading, and math placement tests, and meeting with an advisor/success coach. These students are then required to meet with academic counselors within their majors prior to their second semesters. The First Steps program, part of CSN’s Achieving the Dream initiative, has resulted in more freshmen returning to CSN for their sophomore year.
“We encourage students to enroll as early as possible so they can be sure the classes they want are available at their chosen times and campuses,” said Hyla Winters, interim vice president for academic affairs.
