Breast cancer is an important issue for women of Nevada:
- Not counting some kinds of skin cancer, breast cancer in the United States is the most common cancer in women, no matter your race or background.
- Breast cancer is the most common cause of death from cancer among Hispanic women.
- It is the second most common cause of death from cancer among white, black, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaska Native women.
- In 2015, it is estimated that among U.S. women there will be 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer and 40,290 breast cancer deaths.
In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Southwest Medical is offering a free breast care open house where the public can meet health care providers, learn about breast care health and early detection, get a mammogram screening or schedule a future screening.
The open house takes place Saturday, Oct. 24, at its Eastern Health Center, at 4475 S. Eastern Ave. in Las Vegas from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
