Interior decorator and stylist Lisa Escobar named Austrie Messer interior design assistant.
Messer, 25, who has a Bachelor of Arts in interior design from Brigham Young University, Idaho, has kept current on interior design trends by attending the American Society of Interior Designers annual meetings in Sun Valley, Idaho. At the 2014 Summer Las Vegas Market at the World Market Center in Las Vegas, she won entry to Design Camp, the nation’s top design summit.
Design Camp, led by interior designers Lori Dennis and Kelli Ellis, offered a half-day of special guest speakers led by local and national design industry experts and a showroom tour day.
Messer plans to take the National Council for Interior Design Qualification exam, offered to Interior Designers as the standard for professionals within the industry.
Locally, Messer helped Escobar design a condominium at Panorama Towers high rise and a bachelor pad at the Residences at Mandarin Oriental, installing more than 180 golden koi fish to swim over the master bath.
Messer has loved design since learning about floor plans as an eighth-grader. Every week, she said, she would sketch out her dream home, complete with swimming pool. She also began painting her bedroom walls, to her mother’s chagrin.
“Design keeps me on my toes,” Messer said. “There’s always new product being introduced and people are always looking for change. As people realize the effect good design can have in their life, they fall in love with it.”
