If you like fireworks, mark your calendar for Saturday, July 4 for the annual Stars, Stripes & Sparks Independence Day celebration at Knickerbocker Park in the Providence Master Planned Community. The free event provides a front row seat to a dazzling display by Pyrotecnico, one of the country’s most creative fireworks, pyrotechnics and special effects companies, and a great vantage point overlooking the city to watch earlier fireworks from other locations. Knickerbocker Park is located at 10695 Dorrell Lane, just off the North 215 Beltway and Hualapai Way exit.
Stars, Stripes & Sparks family-friendly festivities will begin with live music from popular local band The Garage Boys, beginning at 6 p.m., and culminate with fireworks around 9:15 p.m. The show is a 15-minute extravaganza incorporating a variety of multi-color, pattern, color-changing and special effects shells and barrages to the music of traditional and contemporary patriotic songs, along with some pop music favorites.
Event attendees are invited to bring picnic baskets, chairs, coolers, and well-behaved leashed pets. No outside alcohol, glass or fireworks, including sparklers, are permitted in the park.
A beer garden and various food and treat options will be available for purchase from Curbside Café, The Cookie Bar, Fat Daddy’s Ice Cream, Grouchy John’s Coffee, Hawaiian Shaved Ice, Lobster Shack, Sausagefest, Senor Blues, Slidin’ Thru and World’s Best Corndogs.
The dedicated kid’s area is a great place to cool off on three water slides, and will feature a Water Gun tent, where children are invited to bring their own water guns to play. There also will be a variety of contests and games.
Formed in 2007, The Garage Boys feature an all-star lineup of local musicians, who have been entertaining Las Vegas for years, primarily with requested classic rock cover songs. The high-energy rock band plays music that reflects their influences, which range from The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, to Radiohead and Bob Marley.
Representatives from nearby Henry and Evelyn Bozarth Elementary School will sell red, white and blue glow-in-the-dark necklaces for donations for school programs. Guests also are invited to donate new toys for the USO at the Providence Master Homeowners Association’s booth.
Providence’s fun-loving community mascot will join the July 4 festivities. P.D., as the 7-foot-tall, caramel-colored “Providence Dog” is affectionately called, won’t be hard to miss with his chocolate spots and big floppy ears.
Attendees also can enjoy other Knickerbocker Park features including separate play areas for 2 to 5-year-olds and 5 to 12-year-olds, swing set, dog park with small and large dog areas, splash pad, jogging path with exercise stations, and picnic areas.
Now in its fourth year, Stars, Stripes & Sparks is sponsored by the Providence Master Planned Community, Providence Master Homeowners Association, Lotus Broadcasting and Pyrotecnico.
