LAS VEGAS – McDonald’s announced today a total of $42,829 was raised in Southern Nevada restaurants for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas scholarship program during its fifth annual Green for Grads scholarship fundraising event on April 10, 2015.
During the one-day scholarship fundraising event, 111 participating Southern Nevada restaurants pledged to donate $1 from every Extra Value MealÒ purchased locally. Funds raised through Green for Grads benefit the Ronald McDonald House CharitiesÒ of Greater Las Vegas scholarship program.
More than 30 Southern Nevada politicians and community leaders volunteered their time to work at local restaurants and raise donations for the scholarship program. Political attendees included Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly, Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen and North Las Vegas Councilwoman Pamela A Goynes-Brown. Local celebrities like Carrot Top, Frank Marino’s Divas and The Chippendales also contributed their time during the Green for Grads scholarship event.
“It’s incredible to see the impact we can make in the lives of these hard-working Southern Nevada students by coming together as neighbors and community partners,” said James Vance, president of the Greater Las Vegas Operator Association. “Our local owner/operators recognize the ambition of these students and look forward to seeing their outstanding accomplishments as they continue to follow their educational dreams.”
Over the past five years, local McDonald’s owner/operators have raised over $270,000 with their annual one-day Green for Grads scholarship fundraiser. Since the RMHC of Greater Las Vegas Scholarship Program was established in 1999, local McDonald’s owner/operators have helped award more than $3.3 million in scholarships to high school seniors in Clark and Nye counties.
In addition to Green for Grads, local McDonald’s owner/operators support a variety of programs throughout the year that focus on education, literacy and the well-being of children including Spread the Word Nevada, Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth and Three Square Food Bank.
