LAS VEGAS – Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada (VMSN) announced it will be sponsoring “Get Fit Family Fun Day” on Saturday, March 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Paradise Recreation Center in partnership with the center, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and STOP Coalition. During the free event, community members will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of health and wellness activities designed to be fun and educational for the entire family.
Neighborhood families and schools, patients of the VMSN Paradise Park Medical Clinic and regular attendees of the Paradise Recreational & Community Center are invited to this event. Attendees will have access to medical screening stations, immunizations and educational discussions about healthy eating options. There will also be opportunities for the children to play various sports and attend martial arts and dance demonstrations. VMSN staff will be on hand to provide navigation services to link event attendees with access to health care options in the community.
“This day of health and wellness gives our organization the opportunity to connect with the community, and we’re so grateful to have partners who share our mission to provide increased access to health care for those in need,” said Dr. Florence Jameson, president and founder of VMSN. “We look forward to meeting our neighbors and helping as many people as possible.”
VMSN provides approximately 6,000 patient visits each year and serves as the medical home for more than 2,300 Southern Nevadans. Through the generosity of volunteers and community partners, VMSN is able to deliver close to $4 million in health care every year with a budget of approximately $1 million.
In an effort to expand its reach and serve the needs of more uninsured Nevadans, the organization broke ground on its second clinic in downtown Las Vegas. In addition to making the organization’s services more accessible for the city’s uninsured, the Ruffin Family Clinic will allow VMSN to treat more patients and expand its services to include vision, dental, mental health care and social services.

About Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada
Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada, a volunteer-run nonprofit organization, was founded in 2008 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to find a way to provide access to health care to Southern Nevada’s working citizens. Its mission is to provide quality healthcare and support in a culture of caring to those residents without access in Southern Nevada. VMSN provides preventative health care in order to care for the neglected and unseen members of the community.
