Las Vegas – The Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance announced that Perry Ursem has been appointed to the position of Vice President of Business Retention and Expansion.

As economic development efforts in Nevada continue to evolve at the state and regional levels and through cooperative efforts between agencies, Ursem will transition from the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development to lead business retention and expansion efforts in Southern Nevada, a new area of concentration for the LVGEA.

In his role, Ursem will employ his institutional knowledge and experience with regional and international businesses operating from Southern Nevada to explore undeveloped opportunities through regulatory, supply chain, and market development. He will conduct recurring familiarization tours to promote Southern Nevada’s business environment to out-of-state corporate decision makers.  He will also work with the office, commercial and industrial brokerage community to identify and support new business relocation efforts.

“Perry understands what it takes to retain and expand businesses in Southern Nevada,” said Jonas Peterson, chief operating officer for the LVGEA. “He’s successfully been working in economic development in Southern Nevada for decades, and we’re happy to have such a well-respected professional join our team.”

With more than 18 years of corporate business development experience in the public and private sectors in Southern Nevada, Ursem previously served as business development manager for the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development. After running a successful business in the commercial and residential construction industry, he began his career in economic development with the Nevada Development Authority in 2003. Recruited back into the private sector in 2007, he returned to economic development in 2012 as one of the first staff members of the newly formed GOED, managing business recruitment and expansion opportunities for regional and local economic development organizations statewide.  Ursem also led the development of the familiarization tour program – co-sponsored by GOED, LVGEA, and private sector companies – for the corporate site selector community, promoting industry assets and opportunities in Southern Nevada. Ursem earned his Bachelor’s Degree with a double major from California Lutheran University.
