The Modern Contemporary Art Museum is excited to announce the first official museum employee. Melanie Coffee, an experienced and passionate activist for the arts, has assumed the role of project manager for The Modern.
Coffee has held positions in several Las Vegas museums, including UNLV’s Marjorie Barrick Museum, The Neon Museum, and Liberace Foundation, since moving to Las Vegas more than ten years ago. In 2012, she graduated with distinction from the University of Leicester with a master’s degree in Museum Studies. Her experience, education, love for Las Vegas, and genuine desire to help build a strong and diverse community around The Modern, is a recipe for success.
Coffee can be found at The Modern’s newly opened public space inside Art Square. She is looking forward to diving into the project and working closely with passionate volunteers. Outside of The Modern, Coffee is a long standing member of the Registrar’s Committee of the American Alliance of Museums and currently serves as a member of the Program Committee for the Western Museums Association.
About The Modern Contemporary Art Museum
The Modern Contemporary Art Museum is an inspiring, new institution dedicated to visual arts and design planned for two acres in the burgeoning downtown Las Vegas Arts District. Along with The Center for Creativity and Luminous Park, the museum will form a progressive cultural center showcasing art, technology, and design in addition to providing essential training and tools for artists and designers. The Modern will house 35,000 square feet and three floors of museum galleries, a retail gift shop, a bistro, and event spaces. Board members expect to break ground on this exciting project within the next two years, with hopes of opening by 2018.
