LAS VEGAS – Smart City Networks has announced the expansion of its 10-year contract with the city of Phoenix to include the installation and maintenance of a complete 4G Neutral Host Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at the Phoenix Convention Center. This is an upgrade from the 3G-system the convention center previously had in place.
The new system is expected to double data rates, and will be up and running by the end of the year.
“Our expanded relationship with Smart City allows the Phoenix Convention Center to continue to provide our guests and clients with cutting-edge technology,” said Debbie Cotton, interim director of the Phoenix Convention Center. “The 4G upgrade is extremely timely to be prepared for Super Bowl 2015.”
Smart City Networks President Mark Haley said he is proud to partner with the city of Phoenix to bring the most advanced, reliable networks to the Phoenix Convention Center and keep people connected.
“Meeting the technology needs of convention center visitors today and well into the future is our priority,” he said.
Made up of mini antennas throughout the facility, a DAS provides stronger signal strength and more consistent wireless coverage throughout a building. Wireless carriers can use the DAS to deliver their signals and service. The system boosts mobile broadband in convention centers or places where objects such as steel columns or concrete can interfere with wireless signals.
DAS further improves behind-the-scenes technology at events by increasing coverage and capacity in the building for smartphones and tablets, improved call clarity and higher data throughput for attendees. Carriers can also upgrade their services more quickly, benefiting customers who seek improved connectivity.
As part of the contract with the city of Phoenix, Smart City also provides high-speed Internet access using Ethernet protocols to all exhibit spaces and meeting rooms, and turnkey data networking services, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs) and private networks using the latest technology.
